FAQ: Services

(Q)

What is compiler qualification?

(A)

We check to see if a compiler is implemented in compliance with standards and if it runs property under various mixes of specifications. Please refer to Services for details.

(Q)

What is an option?

(A)

An option is a compile option to be specified before running a compiler.

(Q)

Can you use the application software I own for qualification service?

(A)

This is not a part of Compiler Qualification Service. Please contact us separately.

(Q)

What do I need to provide?

(A)

Please provide:

  • Compiler set (assembler, compiler, linker)
  • Execution environment (debugger, simulator, hardware)
  • Shell scripts and makefiles to compile, link, and execute automatically.

We require a mechanism by which a text file is generated from the printf function.

(Q)

What are your requirements? (For example, does my compiler need to pass PlumHall prior to CQS?)

(A)

There are no specific requirements, however, our qualification service is more effective after your compiler passes a validation tool such as PlumHall or your own.

(Q)

Is it acceptable to have bugs in the compiler?

(A)

We limit the number of bugs to 40 in the standard evaluation and to 20 in a trial course. Please note that we do not continue analysis if the number reaches the limit.

(Q)

Can you evaluate performance as well?

(A)

Yes. We evaluate compiler capability using various measures such as generated code size, execution time of generated code, and compilation time.

(Q)

Can you compare my compiler with a competitor's compiler?

(A)

Yes, as long as you provide us with a compiler to compare with.

(Q)

Can you provide some sort of guarantee?

(A)

We do not provide guarantee, however, we supply the results of the test cases as a system test report.

(Q)

Is a GUI only simulator acceptable?

(A)

In case of a GUI only simulator, auto-execution features are necessary such as macros and scripts.

(Q)

How long does it take?

(A)

It takes about 2 weeks for 2 options using a simulator on Windows 2000. However, it may take longer depending on the speed of the compiler and simulator, as well as the number of bugs.

(Q)

How long does it take to test on physical hardware?

(A)

It takes approximately 4 weeks for 2 options though it differs depending on the environment.

(Q)

Can you provide certification?

(A)

We do not provide certification. We supply a system test report upon completion.

(Q)

How many DSP-C test programs are there?

(A)

There are approximately 50,000 programs at this moment. We are developing more programs.
